Dear Julie*,

​​Let me tell you about this girl I met this summer. We hung out for couple of days together. I felt comfortable, relaxed and completely connected. And we kept on talking for almost 12 hours everyday, nonstop! I didn't know I could still talk for that long.

Once I came back home, I would write her letters. Why? Because emotions ran high and I'm not gifted enough to express everything in speech. I wrote what I felt about her. I told how excited I was with the newly developed friendship. I told how easy she made me feel during that short period of time. Did I tell how overwhelmingly impressed I was with her personality?

Okay, I have to admit I am not a big fan of my real name. As a writer I want to protect myself from all kinds of prejudice. I want to create an identity for myself that disguises actual me. So, I thought why don't I have a pen-name?

Choosing a name of one's own wasn't easy! I wanted to have a name that doesn't give anyone a clue where I'm from, what's my cultural origin, or which religion my forefathers followed. Finding such a name is actually more difficult than you think. However, I was fortunate. Suddenly I remembered the name of a favorite character from a fictions. That character was very strong, manly and lionhearted. But more than anything else, I liked his name: Sulario. This name met my criteria of ideal pen-name. Thus I became Maruf Sulario.
